This beautiful blue-green lake is the terminus of the Chewaucan river that runs south from Paisley, Oregon. Like most desert lakes, it has no outlets. Abert Lake is the remnant of an Ice Age lake and has become alkaline over time. Birds love these desert lakes as habitat, and Abert Lake is a brine shrimp feeding ground for 100,000 migrating waterfowl. |
